About My Journey

When my father passed away, my mom was lost and needed something to fill her idle time. When we were kids, she made our clothes and loved to sew. So, I decided it was time to teach her to quilt. She became as addicted to quilting as I was. She was so prolific, and I estimate she made over 50 quilts in 5 years, with King Size Wedding Ring Quilts, her specialty. After piecing for 2 or 3 years, she decided to purchase a longarm, which opened up a whole other avenue of the quilting process for her, and me.

My mom passed away 13 years ago. I inherited her longarm, an HQ Sweet 16, on a wooden table. I didn’t know the first thing about doing the actual quilting, as I had always paid someone else to do that part. However, I was intrigued and anxious to learn. I attended Handi Quilter Boot camp and learned the basics, and I became hooked. I have continued my education by attending other Handi Quilter Learning Academy’s as well as online training. I have also upgraded to a Handi Quilter Fusion with a 12’ metal frame and a computerized quilting program.

I also am a very proud partner of the Long Arming Army for Quilts of Valor. I donate my services and quilt 15-20 quilts a year for them. QOV honors veterans by recognizing their services given to our country and presenting them with a quilt made by volunteers.
